Completed with version 2.4.00. User-configurable background colors for Actions and Pagelinks are now possible. There is a global setting for all Actions and pagelinks, and then you can configure individual actions and pagelinks as desired.
Can you be more specific? What buttons are you referring to? If you are talking about user-designed buttons on an image page, then that is going to be very, very difficult. Other than that, there really aren’t any other buttons to interact with.
